I seem to recall Mr Maher making some predictions for 2007, about M&G being first local media organisation to really embrace UGC and the social web. I thought Jonic’s Reporter.co.za had too much of a head start, NOT! Most impressive!
I couldn’t find the post I was looking for in his blog, but perhaps this is more appropriate:

we find our place in the new social media eco-system by entering into a reciprocal relationship with our readers. We get incoming links and we send outbound links and that’s the way we manage loyalty and trust.
What I’d like to see next is some innovation balancing the popularity contest aspects of the top10 and top100 lists with valuable stuff that may or may no lie hidden somewhere in the long tail… I can’t say that any of the tags in the ‘what’s hot’ cloud appeals to me in any way whatsoever :-(, but that is not the point here, far from it.
