With less than a week before the international industry event, the Afiliate Marketing Summit that kicks off today in Las Vegas, we decide ‘Let’s re-brand the company!’, so in the space of a week we resolve the new CI elements, design and get produced a new exhibition booth, banners, promotional boocklets, and last but not least, see if it’s true what hey say about Joomla being a good out-of-the-box solution for rapidly developing and deploying websites.
From, ‘I really think its time we implement a CMS, oh look that one looks pretty,’ to up-and-running in three days is pretty decent I think.
Still some tweaking, polishing and filling out to do, but over-all I’m quite impressed. I have some concerns about Joomla!’s less than human or search engine friendly search-engine-friendly” URLs and some information structuring constraints that seem to be hard-coded into the logic, but I’d really now like to finnaly get round to Reading The Freaking Manual. (Reading it could probably have saved me an hour or so of frustration, but luckily Iwano, our tech support warned me of some of Joomla’s nasties)
Given more time I would probably have preffered designing and developing from the ground up in something like Drupal, but given than both are really over kill for a quick corporate brochure site I think we made the right call. Actually once it’s up and running Joomla! Is actually kinda fun from my WordPress centric experience.
PS. I really like our new motto/ tag-line ‘Affiliate Marketing Brilliance’ – we wanted something that would communicate our strategic positioning while being an internal aspiration as well – we were playing with ‘Affiliate Marketing Genius’, and ‘Affiliate Marketing Gurus’ which were somehow just not quite it, when yours truley – me gloats a bit – came up with ‘Brilliance’ (okay so I did look up genius in thesaurus.com but still :-)
