Auxiliary Marketing and the Peanut Butter Silos

It has been a month since I started trying to get my head around this online affiliate marketing business (seeing as even though I’ve spent the better part of my working career avoiding advertising even though it’s what I originally studied – now through no doing of my own I’m suddenly knee deep in what is essentially a state of the art advertising business, and really getting into it :), so admittedly I probably have no idea of what I’m talking about in what I’m about to post, but…

My distant colleague, Jim Kukral wants a new name for affiliate marketing.

About This (Un)Blog

If you are looking for an example of pro-blogging you may as well leave right now. This is obviously not one of those super sleek, high readership, opinion forming, thought leadership, puncture-proof self-inflating A-list reputation, new-media publicity machines.

What it is instead, is my personal self-indulgent ad-hock online public notepad. I use it, believe it or not, to log stuff. Okay, I’ll admit I enjoy toying with the bells and toys and I do take a peek at the traffic stats about once a month. While we are that topic thank you for visiting, all of the above not withstanding I am flattered and gratified by your interest.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that I sometimes have a little difficulty in deciding what category this blog would best fit into. ‘Miscellaneous’ or ‘Other’ are strong contenders but don’t really mean very much. Typically I post examples of my art, design and photography which function as casual online portfolios. Recently I’ve increasingly been posting notices and invitations I receive in my email inbox. Very occasionally the blogosphere will tickle me into trying to engage with some story or arena of discourse but I often lose interest…

I do appreciate your visit though!

Design Indaba 10 Prices and Dates

Seeing as Design Indaba 10 (2007)’s info is still kind of hard to find on their site I thought I’d post this in the meantime (via the kindness of Michelle at InteractiveAfrica)

Aside, what is it with south African design sites and currency?

Its only two months before the next indaba, but little online details or buzz – there is this article on trusty old Bizcommunity mentioning that early bird bookings opened on 13 Nov.

How is it that Google doesn’t seem to know about Think, the great Graphic Design Council of South Africa – I’m sure I saw a website somewhere – can ynone help?
(Update, found it via Icograda, its http://www.think.org.za/ , the .org threw me off, I thought it was a pretty commercial venture)

Then there is DSA – Design South Africa :: The Association of Professional Designers, its ‘current news‘ section was last updated 2005-09-28, can someone put that site out of its missery please, or is it making a bit of moola?

But If you make it to the Indaba you will hear how lively, dynamic and important design in South Africa is. Hmmm…

Back to regular programming, here the critical info:

BD pub moot, old friends & ‘collar me’ bdsm community x-mas play party

leather chapsI managed to get to the BDSM pub moot at Cool Runnings Café’s dungeon on Wednesday for a cool and comprehensive rundown on suspension play theory, tips, tricks, to-dos , not-to-dos and of course ropes gadgets accessories and such.

Turns out the dude presenting the talk is a old friend from way back when. Really kewl guy, he used to date the pretty unique chick who lived in lace-up doc martins, docs that went up to her knees (I could shower, get dressed and have breakfast in the time it took her to lace up those monsters ;-), who I was once roommates with back in the days of ‘the whitehouse’ commune.

Go figure :- )

‘…reminds of the babe.

What babe?

The babe with the power,

What power?

The power of voodoo.

Who do?

You do… you remind me of the babe…’

Fond memories.

Anyway the collarme.co.za community’s Gauteng X-mas play party is coming up on the 15th December. Just bought my ticket and thus have a good excuse to get into leathers in December :- )

Speaking of things related to masochism, I’m busy coding a pretty extensive hack to automate a tedious DTP design process via Visual Basic for Applications in Corel Draw. Talk about psychological trauma, but more about that at some other point in the not too distant future.
