‘the devil i know’ bronwyn millar

(Might be a touch sentimental for my taste, but kind of a brave theme if you know what I mean. Then again there is the matter of the gothic.)

opening reception on thursday 19 october at 6pm

this exhibition explores the role of masks and altered identity. “as a teenager”, says millar, “i learnt to disguise myself. i painted my face with a think mask of base, painting each freckle carefully with cover stick first so that i looked airbrushed… this exhibition addresses the impact of presenting a false face to the world and about how extreme the mask can be.” this bold collection of new oil on canvas works follows millar’s acclaimed “selfish” exhibition in 2005.
