in some cases it is also the other digital devide
‘Pixel-curtain’ also refers to the qualitative aspects of socio-cultural relations to information technology. There are those who have never seen the pixel-curtain, i.e. have not experienced any kind of IT, those who see the pixel-curtain i.e. have access to- and experience of- IT, and those that see-, and even exist- beyond the pixel-curtain. This last category includes users, but pertains particularly to those who have some understanding or intimate experience of the underlying technologies.
E.g. if you can count in binary you’ve at least peeked through the veil, if you’ve caught yourself saying LOL in an physical world conversation you’ve probably taken a step or two beyond the pixel-curtain. If you can’t help developing real-time hacks and plugins during a coffee break or are proficient in the syntax and grammer of more programming languages than human languages, you may be lost to the other side for ever!
